Chichen Itza

The second day we set out on a tour of the Chichen Itza ruins which is about a 2 1/2 hour ride west of Cancun. We stopped in a town of Valladolid which cute town square in the middle of the town. It is a town that reminded Corey of his time in Salta, Argentina. People are very poor and they are just trying to make it. Then we drove over to the Il Kil Cenote which is an underground river (in Mexico they all their rivers are underground). This is us by a really cool tree walking over to the Cenote...

Here is the Cenote that is underground. You walk up the stairs (on the left of the picture) and then you jump into the water. After visiting the Cenote area for an hour, we went to eat at a Mexican Restaurant. The food was pretty good and they even had these 'old bottles' of Pepsi to drink. I of coarse am a Dr.Pepper fan and was having to suffer on Pepsi. This is *REAL* Mexican Salsa. It was the hottest salsa I had ever eaten in my life. My mouth was on fire and I couldn't get enough to drink to cool my mouth off. While you are eating your meal they have a show with these Mexican dancers who balance things on their head...here is the lady with a try and some real glasses on her head while she taps and swirls around on stage. They also balance beer and Pepsi bottles on their heads. After getting plenty to eat, we made our way to the Chichen Itza Ruins. It was such an amazing place and no one wonder it is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Here was a Iguana just hanging out on rock you. You can barly see it since it blends in so well. Here is one of the ruins. It is closed off to climbing on it probably because of safety. Here is the top back of the first ruin. The Mayans used to worship these 'snake heads' which I find gross but that is what they used to do. The are also called the 'serpents' head and they are on the corner of most of the ruins. Here is the largest of the ruins and this is the pyramid. I was so amazed at how large this was.

On the tour we met people from all over...we met a couple there from Houston who live up in Spring, we met a couple celebrating their 2oth wedding anniversary who are from Georgia, and there was a family from South Africa on our tour too! It is so fun to meet people from all over while on vacation. This was such a fun tour and I totally recommend it for those who visit Cancun!
